(Raising) Spiritual Children

Updated: Dec 19, 2022

Children are naturally more in-tune with their connection to source. This is because the pineal gland doesn’t begin to slow down it’s melatonin production until puberty, meaning that a lot of children are already using their spiritual gifts without knowing it. Often, because we as adults are susceptible to cynicism, we are quick to shut children down when it comes to their gifts, and other spiritual concepts in a bid to project our own fears of being misunderstood.

There are a number of benefits of raising your children with spiritual values and encouraging them to cultivate their own spiritual journey from a young age. Studies show that 40% less adults who had spirituality incorporated into their upbringing abused drugs/substances and 60% less teenagers who had spirituality incorporated into their childhood suffered with depression.

There are also a plethora of other benefits such as:

- Giving them sense of self

- Boosts confidence

- Helps them to feel safe

- Encourages accountability

- Encourages an open mind & Acceptance for all

- Helps them feel understood

- Gives them a sense of being part of something bigger than them

- Encourages family traditions

- Increases family bonds

- Allows them to begin cultivating their gifts early

If you are on a spiritual journey yourself, you will find that either, you will be having to answer tons of questions from small inquisitive minds about what you’re doing and why or you will be going out of your way to hide your practice from your children, to avoid having to answer any awkward questions.

If you find the latter to be true, then I would suggest against introducing them to the practice until you have done a bit more soul searching to figure out what spirituality is to you? Why are you on this journey? Are you afraid of judgement? If so, why? You want to be really sure about your decision to be on this path before encouraging young minds who will gladly follow your lead, so that you can educate and protect them well.

It’s never too early for your child to begin their spiritual journey, there are many things that they can do, or you can do in preparation to help them along their way. Children are incredibly inquisitive and have a thirst for learning new things (providing they are taught in the right way). So allowing them to have autonomy over their own experience, while you guide them, and learn with them will empower them to in-still spiritual values without force or pressure. If children are coerced into a particular set of beliefs, that in time they don’t resonate with it can affect their knowledge of self, trust of authority and resentment towards spiritual or religious practices (and even you!).

If you’d like to learn more about how to guide them in a safe, fun & responsible way, then the raising spiritual children workshop would be great for you. The recording will be available in the workshops section of the site.
